Columns in transformations are known as ports. Data once read from a data

source is converted into PowerCenter's universal data format. All the

transformations exchange information through the ports. While writing

the data

to the target, PowerCenter Integration Service converts the data from

universal

format to native format of the target databases. Therefore, the source and

targets contain columns, whereas the transformations contain ports.
