0 Washington: A man commits suicide in the US Congress

The US Capitol was completed on Saturday after the suicide of a man just outside the gates. A suspect package was also spotted.

Several shots were fired Saturday near the US Congress in the federal capital Washington , and a suspicious package was spotted, said Capitol police building that houses the Congress. A police spokesman, without giving details about the shooting, just told AFP that the "threat" had been "neutralized."

The Capitol, where sit the Senate and the House of Representatives, was cordoned off by the police and the visitor center. Traffic is buckled in several surrounding streets. The author of the shots committed suicide before Congress after carrying a placard calling for taxing "1%", according to many US media. The suspicious package could be his briefcase. "There is, at present, no suspicion of terrorist act," said the police cited by NBC News.
